It is confirmed! Abuja airport will be closed for 6 weeks from February 2017.

At the on going transport and aviation stake holders meeting holding at the Musa Yar'dua centre Abuja, the honorable minister of state for Aviation Senator Hadi Sirika confirmed that the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja will be closed for 6 weeks from February,2107. The closure is for the repair of the run ways which has gone bad and endangering passengers lives. Present at the meeting are diplomats from various embassies, Dg's of various related ministries and parastatals, press, stake holders and members of the public.
He stated clearly that both the Federal and Kaduna State Govt are working tirelessly to ensure the work is done properly and on time.
According to the Hon Minister, the Kaduna airport will be the alternative for now.
All flights will take off and land in Kaduna. Various means of transportation will be made available for passengers from Abuja.
Means of transport from Abuja to Kaduna:
- Helicopter
- Trains
- Air conditioned bus coaches
- Private car hire service
Passengers will decide which will be convenient.
Hotels in Kaduna are also prepared to receive the heavy flow of guest.
The Hon Minister stated that the DSS, Civil defense, police, Military and all security agencies will take care of the security both within the Kaduna town and the highway.
He also said that the passengers travelling from Abuja will be screened first in Abuja at either the Eagle square or the old parade ground where their luggage will be collected before they proceed to Kaduna and screened again before boarding the aircraft.
Ambulances will be positioned at various designations along the Abuja Kaduna high way and helipads will also be made available according to the Minister.
The Kaduna state Government has maintained the bad road to the airport and the power supply has been fixed.
At the Kaduna airport Customs and immigrations will be available and also the Federal Ministry of health will be there for port health services, Federal Ministry of Agriculture for quarantine services and the office of the Vice President for NEMA (providing helipad and emergency services.
