Brexit effect on travllers

Image
What will Brexit mean for travellers? Today your pound will go 70 per cent further in Russia and Zambia than it did in 2013, giving you around £210 extra for every £500 exchanged. Meanwhile, in South Africa and Brazil you’ll get 35 per cent more value for the pound. Some short-haul destinations also offer more bang for your buck: Norway currently offers 22 per cent better value than it did in 2013, and both Sweden and Hungary offer 11 per cent more for the pound. It’s heartening news for British travellers, says Ian Strafford-Taylor, CEO of FairFX: "Picking destinations which offer favourable long-term rates mean that you’ll get more for your money and therefore much better value this summer." Beautiful Mauritius

Image
Something for all: Mauritius has plenty of family fun in the day and night T hink  Mauritius  and you’ll likely think of pristine white beaches, turquoise seas and exclusive, luxury resorts full of celebrities and the super-rich. As with all clichés, it’s partly true but the reality is far more interesting – and much more accessible. You’ll probably also think it’s tropically, uncomfortably hot, being only 20 degrees south of the Equator in the Indian Ocean. The Mauritian summer, between October and April, can be hot, humid and wet. It is still largely glorious. But the “winter” is pretty much perfect for Britons: an average temperature in the low to mid-20s, not much rain and far lower humidity. And the mosquitoes have a rest too, making life far more comfortable. You’ll not be short of things to do. Those beaches – 160km of them – are amazing, especially in the more glamorous east of the island, but Mauritius’s diverse colonial history, volcani...

Brexit and travel

Image
What leaving the EU could cost travellers How leaving the EU could affect travellers Play! 01:09   T he Brexiteers have won. We are leaving the EU. Will those much derided warnings of so-called Project Fear prove justified, or will the arguments for Brexit be vindicated? It’s a huge question; one which will affect us all - no more so than in the world of travel. So what impact can we expect on our holidays? Probably the biggest long term effect on travellers will be a financial one. If Britain prospers as the leaders of the Brexit movement promised, then we will be richer, the pound is likely to strengthen and more of us will be able to afford holidays. If the economy stutters, taxes rise, jobs become less secure and the pound falls, then overseas travel will be much less affordable for most of us. The European Health Insurance Card entitles UK citizens to free or reduced-cost treatment in other EU countries. Now the agreement will...
