The Minister of Aviation in Nigeria Captain Hadi Sirika stated yesterday that the Federal Government is not going back on its plan to concession the four major airports in Nigeria.


These are Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt international airports to improve their safety capacity.


Reacting to the protest by the some aviation unions, he said it was a misconception that the Government is not privatizing the airports or selling but that the concession will ensure proper management  while the Government retains their ownership.

                     Minister of state for Aviation, Nigeria At the on going transport and aviation stake holders meeting holding at the Musa Yar'dua centre Abuja, the honorable minister of state for Aviation Senator Hadi Sirika confirmed that the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja will be closed for 6 weeks from February,2107. The closure is for the repair of the run ways which has gone bad and endangering passengers lives. Present at the meeting are diplomats from various embassies, Dg's of various related ministries and parastatals, press, stake holders and members of the public.   He stated clearly that both the Federal and Kaduna State Govt are working tirelessly to ensure the work is done properly and on time. An EgyptAir flight reported missing between Paris and Cairo has crashed, French President Francois Hollande confirmed. The Airbus A320 with 66 people on board disappeared from radar at 02:30 Cairo time (00:30 GMT), soon after leaving Greek airspace. Greece's defence minister says Flight MS804 made "sharp turns" and plunged before dropping off the radar. A major search is under way in seas south of the Greek island of Karpathos. Greek and Egyptian armed forces are involved in the effort, and France has offered to send boats and planes. Mr Hollande said he was keeping an open mind about the cause of the crash. "We will draw conclusions when we have the truth about what happened," he said. "Whether it was an accident, or whether it was - and it's something that is on our minds - terrorism."
